Hayek to keynote Chamber Annual Banquet

Matt Hayek, newly-elected mayor of Iowa City, will be the featured speaker at the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce's annual banquet. The banquet, which is open to the public, will take place Thursday, February 18 at the Coralville Marriott. Social hour will begin at 5 p.m., while the dinner and reception will start at 6 p.m.

“There is challenging work ahead of the city council and Matt’s intelligence and equanimity engender the trust and respect important to building consensus,” said Nancy Quellhorst, president and CEO of the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce. “Matt is a charismatic speaker whose vision for Iowa City will have significant impact on Johnson County businesses.”

Coralville Mayor Jim Fausett and North Liberty Mayor Tom Salm will introduce Mayor Hayek.

Hayek, who is a partner at the Iowa City law firm, Hayek, Brown, Moreland, & Smith, will share his vision for Iowa City. He is expected to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing Iowa City. He will outline a number of priorities, from flood recovery to redevelopment plans, designed to enhance the community and grow the tax base.

Sponsored by Riverside Casino & Golf Resort, about 400 people typically attend the banquet each year.
