Propery taxes, allowable growth and salaries! Oh, my!

Updated:  April 10, 2009

How can your school afford to re-pave the parking lot, but not raise teachers’ salaries? How much control does your local school board have over your property taxes? What is allowable growth, anyway?

The Area Chamber’s Education Committee will host a discussion panel to help increase your understanding of basic public school finance. Panelists include Paul Bobek, executive director of administrative services, Iowa City Community School District; Charlie Funk, president, MidWestOne Bank; and Larry Sigel, school finance director, Iowa Association of School Boards.

An audience Q&A session will follow.

This event, which is free and open to the public, will be from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., on Thursday, April 9, at the Coralville Public Library.

Special thanks to Oral B and Procter & Gamble, the premier sponsors of the Area Chamber’s 2009 Education Committee programming.
